The ALG has a new Grants Committee following the local elections in
May. At the first meeting a 33% cut in the ALG Grants budget was
proposed, with a view to repatriating funds to the local authorities.
Recommendations on these cuts will be made in early September, which
will go to Leaders Committee in November.
Recommendations will also be made about future priorities for funding
at the September meeting. Indications are that 'specialist' equalities
groups will be hit particularly hard.
Voluntary Sector Forum held a briefing event on 15th August attended
by representatives of over 120 Voluntary and Community Sector
organisations.
The event launched the VSF campaign to raise awareness of the ALG
funding priority changes and potential cuts in funding to the London
VCS and the threat to equalities groups across the capital.
The campaign is also aimed at mobilising and galvanising ALG funded
organisations across London to lobby their local councillors,
especially members of the Leaders Committee and ensure that the value
of London's VCS both in financial terms and in terms of social
cohesion is not overlooked.
Delegates at the briefing received a campaign pack, which included
