'Refugee Women: Access to Employment' project (Leeds)
Introduction

This is a new three year project run by the Yorkshire and Humberside
Consortium, in partnership with a wide range of organisations across
the region from the statutory, voluntary and refugee sector. The
project will be piloted in Leeds in 2006, and rolled out in other
areas of Yorkshire and Humberside in Years 2 and 3.

Aim of the project

To increase work opportunities for refugee women in the fields of
health, housing, social welfare and education through:

a.. supported and certified work placements
a.. work mentoring
a.. relevant training

Who is eligible to take part in the project?

Refugee women can participate in the project if they:

a.. are actively seeking or wanting employment
a.. have moderately good level of English
a.. can commit to a 12-day work placement
a.. can commit to attending relevant training

What support is offered to refugee women?

a.. childcare and travel expenses reimbursed
a.. course fee paid
a.. individual support from project staff
a.. referral to appropriate work and training opportunities
