Together We Can - Empower communities in London - Free event
A free event for community activists, public bodies and policy makers
based in the London region: anyone interested in how to make sure
Londoners can play a role in shaping the places they live in and the
public services that support them.
Thursday 7 December 2006 - 9:00am - 4.45pm
The Barbican, London, EC2Y 8DS
The Together We Can initiative is now really gathering momentum, with
the experiences of groups working hard to make a difference in their
community now being shared by others throughout the country.
On 7 December, you can come up to speed on the progress being made
regionally and nationally at an event for London community
organisations and policy makers which is being hosted by the
Department for Communities and Local Government and London Civic
Forum.
The event provides the opportunity to:
* Hear a key note speaker (to be confirmed) from the Department of
Communities and Local Government outline the Local Government White
Paper and explain how its proposals will empower communities.
* Meet key organisations involved in supporting London's communities.
* Attend master classes on key policy developments for Londoners, on
how communities can help shape better, more responsive public
services.
* Join practical workshops to share good practice and effective
community engagement.
* Meet policy-makers and officers responsible for community engagement
and empowerment in local, regional and central government.
Who is it for?
* The day is aimed at anyone involved in community engagement and
empowerment in London - including the voluntary and community sectors,
local government and policy makers - and anyone keen to find out more
about how to shape decisions and have a say in how our public services
are run.
Places are limited and will be issued on a first come first served
basis.
How much does it cost?
* The event is free, but to attend you will need to register by 1st
December 2006.
