Here to Help Awards - Deadline 20th October 2006

Save the Children and British Gas have launched a new round of their
funding scheme, the 'here to HELP' Awards, to fund projects that help
make where young people live a healthier, more engaging, safer place
to be.

The 'here to HELP' Awards are designed to get young people in Great
Britain more involved in their communities through speaking out on
issues which affect them and get them more involved with local
decision making.

Over three years Save the Children and British Gas want to fund 300
projects across Britain.

Groups of young people can apply for up to £1000 to start a project
that they feel will address a need in their community.

The next deadline for applications is the 20th October 2006.

Projects that receive a 'here to HELP' Award will also be showcased on
the HELP Yourselves website.

Through the 'here to HELP' Awards, Save the Children are looking to
fund projects that:
* Give children and young people a voice in their communities;
* Promote sexual and mental health;
* Address drug and solvent abuse;
* Help young people develop skills through play and leisure
opportunities;
* Combat bullying, racism and isolation;
* Promote safe places for children and young people.

You need to make sure that your project is to take place in an area
where they can provide funding. Check the 'eligible area search list'
on the Help Yourselves website.

Other criteria to consider include: Projects funded in the next round
need to take place between January and May 2007; Projects need to
heavily involve of be led by children and young people, but be linked
to an adult lead organisation or group; They can fund groups and
organisations that have a statutory duty to provide facilities/set up
projects, but will only fund projects that aren't already covered by
other sources of funding.

Save the Children cannot fund:
* Any projects outside of Great Britain;
* Any political, sexist or racist organisations;
* Any projects wishing to fund overseas trips;
* Multiple applications - i.e. many applications from the same
organisation.

Don't forget - you need to refer to the guidance notes available on
the Help Yourselves website to assist you complete your application
form.
