Free IT and Internet Seminars for voluntary and community
organisations organised by nfpSynergy and Charity Technology Trust
(CTT)
Our next free seminar is on Thursday, 9th November, 2006 from 3-6pm at
No. 1 London Bridge (3rd floor conference room). There are three hot
topics on the agenda this time. The speakers will be:
a.. Seb Bacon, Director of non-profit specialist web development
agency Jamkit, will present: 'Not just another "Web 2.0" talk ' - This
talk will get behind the jargon and hype from "Web 2.0" and explain
why it shouldn't be big news for charities. It will explore the
relevance of some of the newer technologies and how these can be made
to fit existing best practice.
b.. Jon Gooday, Accessibility Development Manager at AbilityNet,
will talk about: 'Assistive Technology in Practice' - We all talk
about web accessibility and usability and take them into consideration
when developing our online offerings, but who and what are we actually
doing it for? Jon will run through a practical demonstration of some
of the most widely used assistive technology products, from
screenreaders to magnifiers, as well as give an overview of best
practice for designing with these products and their users in mind.
c.. Roger Chester, Head of Finance and Administration at LionHeart,
will talk about: 'Joining up the dots' - Roger was charged by his
Trustees with "making the computers work". This has involved
extensively developing and, crucially, integrating together a finance
system, CRM system, the internet and an extranet. Roger will
demonstrate how this has been done and the benefits of what has been
achieved.
The seminar will start at 3.15pm with refreshments available from 3pm,
and will finish around 5.30-6pm.
If you want to come, please email seminars at nfpsynergy.net, because
numbers are limited (and so we can get a rough idea of numbers for
catering). Please feel free to send this email onto others (there is a
forwarding link at the bottom). If you can't make it, copies of the
presentation will be available from our website (
http://www.nfpsynergy.net) after the event.
The seminar in the 3rd floor conference room is at No 1 London Bridge,
Downstream Building (on the bridge itself on the south side,
downstream). The nearest tube and rail station is London Bridge
(Northern and Jubilee lines), but Monument (on the Circle and District
lines) is just across the river. If you'd like to see a map of the
venue, please go to: http://dotm1.net/t.aspx?l=243042&i=69796463
The seminars are an opportunity to network and hear three talks on
subjects about IT and Internet issues highly relevant to voluntary and
community organisations. They are free. At the end of the three talks
there will be an opportunity for an open discussion.
We are always on the look-out for people or organisations who would
like to speak about the work they are doing in the IT or Internet
arena. It could be a case study, a new product or a piece of research.
If you'd like to give a talk, please email me on
ariel.spigelman at nfpsynergy.net.
