'There are few crimes more damaging, more emotive and more sensitive
than sexual offences against children. The impact of these offences on
the victims and their families is devastating.' John Reid, Review of
the Protection of Children from Sex Offenders, June 2007
With the new recommendations to more effectively manage child sex
offenders recently announced by the Home Office - Police, the
Probation and Prison Services and other key stakeholders in Local
Government and the community now have an even greater responsibility
for the safeguarding of our children.
Maintaining the existing safeguards and the introduction of another 20
measures will put increasing pressure on our services and resources:
pressures which will be felt across the public sector. Implementing
the new measures requires a cross-sector, multi-agency approach and
the buy-in from stakeholders, practitioners and communities.
Understanding the implications of the measures, where responsibility
lies and how to best implement the requirements is vital to their
success.
This timely conference brings together the key stakeholders across the
sector to share ways to effectively manage sex offenders in the
community.
