Apologies if you have received this information previously, but London
Voluntary Service Council would like to publicise the following event
as widely as possible in London.


Equalities and Diversity
- An introduction to the legislation (Morning)

Single Group Funding Guidance Consultation
- A chance to have your say (Afternoon)

Tuesday 13th May 2008 | 9.30am-5.00pm
Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD (nearest tube King's
Cross)

The event will be a day conference with two main purposes:

(1) The morning session will be about equalities legislation, the
Equalities and Human Rights Commission and the Single Equality Act. It
will set the context for the afternoon and will provide practical
information for groups about equalities legislation.

(2) The afternoon will address the issue of Single Group Funding, and
will focus on the department for Communities and Local Government's
current consultation on their 'Cohesion Guidance for Funders'.

Following last year's report by the Commission on Integration and
Cohesion that urged local authorities to make "single group funding" -
that is funding for a group that works with people of one single
ethnicity, religion or culture  - the exception rather than the norm,
LVSC has been following the government's response closely.

Part of this response is the draft 'Cohesion guidance for funders',
which sends mixed messages about the funding of groups which work with
a single community. This event will be an opportunity for LVSC to
gather a wide range of your views about this document.

LVSC and the networks that are facilitated by LVSC will submit a
response to the consultation based on evidence collected during the
afternoon sessions.

We very much welcome your input no matter at what level you work. Each
booking includes lunch and you can book for the morning, the afternoon
or both sessions.
