Acevo to set up women's group
Chief executives body to establish special interest group to tackle
gender pay gap
Frustration over the widening gender pay gap has prompted chief
executives body Acevo to establish a special interest group for women.
The Acevo Pay Survey 2008/09 revealed the difference in average pay
between male and female charity chief executives had widened from
£8,700 to £11,000 in the past year.
Jenny Berry, director of Acevo North, sent an email to Acevo members
to assess interest in a group looking at issues of particular interest
for women charity leaders and was "completely staggered" by the
response.
"I thought I would get a few emails back, but I have been completely
swamped," she said. "People, myself included, thought things like pay
weren't an issue any more, so the survey was a huge surprise."
Berry said about 60 women had responded to her email and that she was
organising two meetings early next year - one in the north of England,
the other in the south - with a view to setting up a group.
Although it was pay that prompted interest in the group, it will also
focus on other Acevo issues such as governance and training and
development from a gender perspective.
"One of the strongest concerns to come through has been how we can get
more young women to become chief executives in the future," said
Berry.
