Using the principles of public law to protect your project
"I have been waiting for a course like this for the last 5 years!"
"Excellent, exactly met both my needs and those of my organisation"
These are just two of the many positive comments we have received from
delegates attending the "Empowering the Voluntary Sector" workshop.
The workshops are part of the partnership project between NAVCA and
the Public Law Project funded by the Big Lottery.
To date we have trained over 500 VCS workers in the principles of
public law. In the first year of the project, the Public Law Project
have supported over 70 local organisations, their advice and support
has prevented around £250,000 being lost to the sector in cuts from
public bodies.
We have spaces available on the following workshops;
* Bournemouth on 27 February
* Chippenham on 5 March
* Kendal on 11 March
* Redcar on 12 March
* Kensington on 19 March
* Bristol on 27 March
The groups are limited to 15 participants, so we suggest you get your
place booked as soon as possible. The cost per person is £35; this
includes VAT and lunch. To book your place go to
http://www.navca.org.uk/evs and follow the links to the booking form.
You can also download the projects newsletters and information leaflet
as well as finding out about the free legal advice line run by the
Public Law Project as part of this project.
People who have attended previous workshops have gone back to their
organisations feeling empowered and confident that they could identify
when public bodies are not using fair processes, and have expressed
their relief at finally finding the information they needed to help
them negotiate successfully with local public bodies:
"I feel I now know enough about public law to feel confident to
incorporate it (when necessary) in my negotiations with public
bodies".
"Wish we'd had this years ago!"
"It's time the VCS had the tools to effectively stick up for itself,
this course goes some way to doing that"
"Best and most useful course I have attended for ages"
If you require any further information regarding the workshops or the
project, or you would like to host a workshop in your area, please get
in touch with me by phone or email.
Best Wishes
Terry
