Free training - promoting tax credits to help with childcare costs

Daycare Trust is offering free training to advice organisations
working in the voluntary and community sector to improve understanding
of how the childcare element of Working Tax Credit can be used to help
parents with their childcare costs.

Daycare Trust is the national childcare charity, campaigning for
quality, accessible, affordable childcare for all and raising the
voices of children, parents and carers. We advise parents and carers,
childcare providers, employers, trade unions and policymakers on
childcare issues.

We are seeking to increase the take up of Working Tax Credit by
raising awareness of the childcare element among potential recipients
from hard-to-reach groups. We intend to do this through an online
eligibility tool that is designed for advisers in local voluntary and
community sector organisations.

The online resource will be supplemented by free face-to-face training
sessions for advice workers, so that they are able to effectively
promote help with childcare costs through tax credits.

Research has demonstrated that there is currently a low take up of
Working Tax Credit among certain groups in our community. These have
been identified as black and minority ethnic groups, one parent
families and families with disabled children. We are therefore looking
for voluntary and community sector advice organisations that have
contact with parents from these identified groups, who would like to
take part in these training sessions.

Sessions are free and will be delivered in five locations across the
country in spring 2008.

Dates are as follows:
* Tuesday 25 March - Bristol.
* Wednesday 26 March - Birmingham.
* Thursday 27 March - London.
* Friday 28 March - London.
* Monday 31 March - Manchester.

If you advise parents and work in a voluntary or community advice or
welfare organisation and are interested in this training and would
like us to send you further information, please send your contact
details, including the name of your advice organisation and a short
description of the types of parents you work with, to
info at daycaretrust.org.uk <mailto:info at daycaretrust.org.uk?subject=Free
tax credit training> , using the reference 'free tax credit training'.
Alternatively you can contact 020 7840 3350.

Please note: These sessions are aimed at organisations that have
little or no knowledge of tax credits and how they can be used to pay
for childcare. Places are limited and priority will be given to those
whose client group includes parents who may benefit from claiming tax
credits to help with their childcare costs.
