Aims and objectives
Recent criticism over Sure Start not meeting its goals has led to much
publicity and increasing public scrutiny of the scheme. Now more than
ever is the time to question whether our centres are doing enough to
tackle poverty, provide quality services and meet the needs of the
most vulnerable. With a mix of strategic sessions and innovative case
studies, this conference provides a neutral forum for policy makers
and practitioners who are developing and delivering children's
centres, to share their experiences and learn from best practice.
This timely conference covers the crucial areas needing to be
addressed, including:
* Future funding to enable sustainable provision
* Tackling poverty
* Piloting the Early Years Foundation Stage
* Engaging ethnic minority communities
* Working with the voluntary sector
* Developing the skills of parents
* Partnership working with health services
Benefits of attending
* Hear the latest government strategy for preparing for Stage 3 of the
roll-out and hear their policy for future funding to enable
sustainable provision
* Gain from an introduction to TfC support resources
* Learn what more you can do to tackle child poverty by providing more
effective outreach services and linking to wider anti-poverty schemes
* Benefit from an innovative case study of seconding health
professionals to work within children's services

with the voluntary sector
* Get advice on how your centre can engage more effectively with both
ethnic minority communities and fathers

future employment
