Working For A Charity's Effective Voluntary Sector Management: enrol
now!

New starters in the voluntary sector can now start to enrol for the
2008 NCVO Working For A Charity online course, which will give them an
overview of working for a charity and boost their career.

The course, Effective Voluntary Sector Management, is aimed at people
who have recently joined the voluntary sector or who are looking to
make a career move into it. Volunteers and trustees can also benefit
from this course. People can enrol now for the next course, which will
run from October 2008 to May 2009.

The course covers seven units:
* Introduction to the voluntary sector
* Marketing and communications
* Fundraising
* Employment
* Volunteering
* Financial management
* Governance

The online course is run by Working For A Charity, a project within
NCVO and part of the UK Workforce Hub and is accredited by Roehampton
University. The online element will provide 10 credits at HE level 1.
For those who wish to achieve a Certificate of Professional Practice a
project module can be completed after the online course.

This unique, innovative course is designed to give workers who are new
to the sector a head start. Voluntary and community organisations will
be able to ensure their new starters understand the challenges and
management issues they will face. An online course is perfect for
people who are not able to devote time to attending a daytime course,
or who don't want to spend time travelling to central London.

To register for the course, go to
http://www.workingforacharity.org.uk/ and complete the online form.

Quotes from previous participants:

"I have found the course a positive and valuable learning experience
that has allowed me to develop a true understanding of the voluntary
sector, its aims, codes and practices and how to be a more effective
and strategic manager within an organisation in this sector."
- Caroline Baxter, Manager of Children's Services, Enhanceable, Surrey

This course has really enhanced my understanding of the voluntary
sector and also filled in many gaps. The content is so clear and
well-organised. There is no doubt that doing the course really helped
to put my experience as chair of a small, active charity into context,
whilst it opened my eyes to the way other organisations work. It has
also given me a huge confidence boost when it came to interview, as I
felt I had a grip of the many issues the panel asked about.
-Susan Thomas, Community Mentor, Age Concern, Devon
