I am writing to invite you to attend a conference to be held here at
Cumberland Lodge from 14th to 16th July 2008 entitled Trumpeting the
Voluntary: Social Conscience and the Third Sector.  This event will
attract a diverse range of people including those from NGOs,
charitable
organisations, and think tanks as well as politicians and academics.
The conference will be held under the Chatham House Rule and speakers
who have already agreed to speak include: Ann Blackmore, Stephen Bubb,
Stuart Etherington, Dame Elisabeth Hoodless, Tom Levitt MP, Lord
Mawson,
and Baroness Prashar.

As perhaps you know, Cumberland Lodge is an educational charity which
exists to promote fresh debate on social and ethical issues.  We bring
together leading people, deliberately mixed in with a small percentage
of students, for a conversation in our relaxed and historic
residential
setting at the centre of Windsor Great Park.  As an independent
organisation, we have the great advantage of being able to promote
genuinely frank cross-sector discussion and co-operation on matters
affecting the development of society.  Last year we celebrated sixty
years of undertaking this work, convening and hosting such gatherings,
the outcomes of which have been widely disseminated.
