V4CE Partnership news

Race on the Agenda and MiNet have launched a report detailing the impact of the
recession on Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities and their
sector. The report highlights the immediate action required by Government and
local authorities to ensure London's most marginalised and vulnerable
communities do not become further isolated. The report can be downloaded from

V4CE is supporting the BEAM East Midlands BME Alliance Economic Summit that
takes place on 25th July at the Brite Centre in Leicester. Please note that the
centre is a fully accessible venue. The Summit is aimed at helping BME Community
organisations develop opportunities and strategies and the BME Alliance will
present findings of regional research that impacts BME communities. VCS places
are free and the Statutory Sector places are £180. The deadline for registration
is the 15th July and further information is available from

The National Equality Partnership has been commissioned by Capacitybuilders to
facilitate discussion with the third sector on their newly drafted Single
Equality Scheme (a single equality scheme considers the seven equality strands:
age, disability, gender, gender identity, race, religion or belief and sexual
orientation).  Capacitybuilders is committed to developing an equality scheme
that delivers real impact so this is your opportunity to involve the equality

Policy News

YDM have published their full report into Pakistani/Bangladeshi parent/carers
living in Nottingham who are suffering from mental health, domestic violence,
youth offending and drugs and alcohol issues. The report can be downloaded from

The Directory of Social Change have released a Critical Conditions report that
examines the transparency of grant terms and conditions as part of their Great
Giving campaign. It recommends that make any funding terms are publicly
available and accessible to all applicants at the start of the application
process.  The DSC also want funders to be willing to negotiate terms if
applicants request to do so.  The research provides some baseline evidence and a
starting point for further work. The full report is available at

The Charity Commission has published its annual report, showing the work it has
undertaken over the year to support the 190,000 charities registered in England
and Wales. It has found that the past year has been a difficult one for many
charities, trying to meet the growing demand for their services while coping

Events

On 14th July the REACH programme is organising a conference to celebrate the
progress so far. Register now at http://reach.eventreg.org.uk to hear the new
CLG Secretary of State John Denham MP highlight the support available for small
Voluntary and Community Service organisations who are working with Black boys
and young men. In addition, delegates will be able to take part in workshops and
visit stands to learn more about the REACH programme. The event is at the Hilton

The National Equality Partnership and East London CVS Network are offering a
great free opportunity to learn all about the Single Equalities Bill and also
about Equalities Impact Assessments. The event takes place on 16th July 2009 at

A criminals in the community workshop is taking place on Saturday 25th July,
between 10.30am and 4.30pm, at the Froud Community Centre in London. The purpose
the event is to highlight the negative consequences of crime on communities and
how we can work to prevent people specifically the youth from getting involved.

NCVO and the Office of the Third Sector have launched a free website containing
details of funding opportunities for voluntary organisations. Funding Central
http://www.fundingcentral.org.uk/%20  provides information about 4,000 grants,
contracts and loans offered by local, regional, national and European funders.

Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) is seeking to commission research on the
experiences of black and minority ethnic staff working in the higher education
sector. The intention is that this applied research will have practical outcomes
and will recommend, develop and pilot initiatives in three thematic areas. The
thematic research areas are: Management practice, Support frameworks and
relationships, leadership and development. The research forms part of ECU's Race
Forum project http://www.ecu.ac.uk/our-projects/race-forum, and the appointed
researchers will work in collaboration with the Forum. Tenders are invited from
academic research staff, consultants outside of the higher education sector, or

Roshni is a specialist organisation that supports South Asian women victims of
domestic, sexual violence and forced marriage in Nottingham. However local South
Asian women could be denied access to external help and support as the City
Council is threatening to withdraw their funding. If you want to support Roshni
