Sheila McKechnie Foundation creates website for campaigners

Campaign Central will offer advice on how to use the media and staying within
the law

The Sheila McKechnie Foundation http://www.sheilamckechnie.org.uk/ has launched
a website offering free resources for charities and community groups that want
to lobby for change.

Campaign Central http://www.campaigncentral.org.uk/ provides free guidance for
campaigners on topics such as how to use the media and how to stay within the
law. There is also an online community to enable charities involved in
campaigning to discuss their work.

A spokesman for the foundation, which provides training and support for
campaigners, said the website cost £20,000 to develop and was funded by grants
from the Baring Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.

Linda Butcher, chief executive of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation, said:
"Campaigners are a key part of our democracy, challenging policy makers and the
public to see and do things differently."

She said she hoped the site would become a key resource for the sector. "Just
like a presence on MySpace is important for bands trying to make it big,
Campaign Central is the natural home for campaigners to network with others to
build a movement," she said.
