Subject: Mental Health and Substance Use Conference

Dear Women in London,

We are hosting a conference on 'Mental Health and Substance Use' In
London and would very much appreciate it, if you could put the listing
of our event up on your website. The conference will be aimed at
informing both people who work within the Social Care industry and those
who use the services they provide. The details of our conference are:

Title: Mental health and substance use
Date: 25 May 2010
Venue: ORT House Conference Centre, London NW1

About the conference:

Government guidance on supporting people with co-occurring substance
misuse and mental health problems was published in 2002. Yet many people
in this group find themselves being batted between substance misuse and
mental health services or receive no service at all. Too many end up
living impoverished lives, excluded from their communities, denied an
ordinary life and frequently in trouble with the law.

People with a dual diagnosis tend to have multiple and complex problems.
They do not fit into the neat silos constructed by public services.
Instead they need integrated support from a variety of providers in
order for care to be effective.

This conference aims to address the issue of complexity and looks at
both developing policy and practice to achieve real integrated services.

Key speakers include:
* Chair: Sean Duggan Joint Chief Executive, Sainsbury Centre for
Mental Health
* Jim Symington, Deputy Director, National Mental Health
Development Unit
* Marcus Roberts Director of Policy, Drugscope
* Lynne Daly Consultant Adolescent Forensic Psychiatrist and
Service Director, Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation
Trust
* Liz Hughes Reader in Primary Care, University of Coventry
* Kate Cocker Manager, Elmore Community Services, Oxford

Who should attend:
* Practitioners in both substance misuse and mental health
services
* Statutory sector and third sector providers
* Service users and carers
* Those involved in policy development and implementation in both
mental health and substance misuse
* Those working in the criminal justice system
* Commissioners of both substance misuse and mental health
services
