London Local Elections Hustings 2010 - Get your voice heard!

Wednesday 24 March 2010, 2pm to 5pm
Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, EC2A 3EA

WRC<http://www.wrc.org.uk/>, HEAR<http://www.wrc.org.uk/what_we_do/our_projects/hear_network/default.aspx> and Voluntary Sector Forum<http://www.lvsc.org.uk/Templates/information.asp?NodeID=90117> are hosting a hustings event for the 2010 London Local Elections.

In the lead up to May's local elections, we are inviting four London Councillors to answer your questions about their commitment to the women's sector (and the voluntary sector more widely), especially around funding.

Three members of the panel sit on the London Councils Grants Committee - London Councils is a major funder of London's women's sector (spending 12% of its total budget on VAW services) and is currently reassessing its funding priorities in a climate of likely cuts to the budget. This is an unmissable opportunity to ask questions directly to the councillors making these decisions about future funding.

Use this chance to make your case for the women's sector and why we need ongoing funding!

* Explain why women only services are essential and expose any problems you've had with borough-based funding.
* Highlight why pan-London funding is important and how the benefits of your service transcend borough borders.
* Talk about the key issues facing front line services and ask how London Councils can help
* Inform the panel about emerging need which is not being met with current funding

This is a one-off opportunity to have your voice heard by some of London's key decision makers, and to hear from the main political parties on their commitment to the women's sector - don't miss out and RSVP now to ellen at wrc.org.uk<mailto:ellen at wrc.org.uk>

So the event can run smoothly, we are requesting questions from the audience in advance by 5pm on Thursday 18 March. If you would like to submit a question, please include this with your RSVP.

This event is being held in partnership by WRC, HEAR and VSF and there will be parts of the event devoted to the women's sector, the wider equalities sector and the wider voluntary and community sector.
