Elephant Trust for the arts

The Elephant Trust was created in 1975 by Roland Penrose and Lee Miller with a
view to develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the
fine arts in the United Kingdom.

To bear in mind at all times an original, inquisitive, open-minded, generous and
unshockable approach to art in all its forms with a bias towards the visual
arts.'

This injunction, laid down by the original Trustees of The Elephant Trust,
embodies the spirit of its founders, Roland Penrose and Lee Miller, and remains
the cornerstone of the Trust's policy today.

The Trust was set up to make it possible for artists and those presenting their
work to undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. It is
committed to helping artists and institutions that depart from the routine and
signal new, distinct and imaginative sets of possibilities.

Applicants are asked to consider the above carefully to be sure their project
falls within the remit of The Elephant Trust.

Given the Trust's modest resources, grants have usually been limited to £2,000
but larger grants may be considered. Funding priority is given to artists and to
small organisations and galleries.

No grants are available for educational or other study purposes. No grants are
available for residencies or research. No grants are available for projects
taking place outside the UK.

Application is by post only. Consult website for guidance.

Next application deadlines: 13 April 2010; 28 June 2010
